About the project
The Thai edition of Mamoru: an installable web app for Spanish speakers who study Thai and want to keep it, from the alphabet to level C1. It has the same idea, the same sections and the same architecture as the Japanese one, in another language.
Goal. Thai has an alphabet of its own and five tones, and there is hardly any material in Spanish to learn it. Mamoru teaches it from scratch, and what only exists in Japanese is not copied but replaced by what Thai needs, such as consonant classes, tone rules, Paiboon transcription and classifiers.
What it does.
- A0: the 44 consonants with their classes, the vowels, closed syllables, tone rules and numerals, all with handwriting practice and a mnemonic for every character.
- A1 to C1: vocabulary, reading without transcription, grammar, reading, listening and a final exam per level. Over 4,600 words in total.
- Travel: a specialty with 85 words for getting around Thailand.
- Search: a dictionary of about 17,700 words with examples, and the frequency of each word from the Thai National Corpus.
- Study tables: pronouns, particles, questions, classifiers, numbers and time.

Accessibility. WCAG 2.2 AA, checked with Playwright and axe on every change. The brand's gold was adjusted until it passed contrast on the paper and the surfaces, and the preference for reduced motion is honoured.
Performance. An installable PWA that opens offline. The strokes of the letters, about 40 kB, are only downloaded when needed.
Security and privacy. Progress stays on the device and the account is optional, with scrypt passwords.
Architecture and quality. The same monorepo as the Japanese edition: React, Vite, Fastify, Drizzle and PostgreSQL, with 34 unit test files and end-to-end tests. The transcription was checked against the Thai Wiktionary.

Status. The five sections work, with the whole alphabet and the levels from A1 to C1.
